Lyrics:

Ain’t that a shame
You awake one day to realize
Ain’t that a shame
That the life you’ve lived been fantasized
Ain’t that a shame
You allowed it to be compromised
Ain’t that a shame
That you listened to the criticize

There’s only two questions you can really ask
Am I loved, and do I love right back?
Look into your heart and you will know
That you know which way to grow

Ain’t that a shame, ain’t that a shame

Ain’t that a shame
That your freedom has been formalized
Ain’t that a shame
That you’ve been forced to cast aside
Ain’t that a shame
In your dreams you have been tranquilized
Ain’t that a shame
You never will be satisfied

There’s only two questions you can really ask
Am I loved or will I lie right back
Light a fire deep within your soul
And let the cosmic tumblers roll

Ain’t that shame, ain’t that a shame

Song Story:

Many believe in the course of everyone’s lifetime there comes a point in time where one develops and awareness of what they truly want to do, and compare it to what they are actually doing.  In many cases they are one and the same.  However, for some it may be a time of great revelation leading to a number of mental states.  The worst would be if someone were to believe it was a shame they were doing not what they would love to do, but what they thought they ought to do or have to do.  In any case, there comes the notion of shame which is a feeling of embarrassment or guilt in a different form, and it arises when one compares the social norms, laws, or constructs against their own behavior.  Whenever knowledge is gained, whether it is from revealing that one wants to try something new, or the development of a strong sense of identification with the self, this most certainly should not be considered a “shame."  For example, this question and answer gives another interpretation of this point; Q: “Is that a shame?” A: “Nothing is.”
